WhatsApp adds Android Pie's native notification inline photos
Fri, 21 Sep 2018 11:05:54 +0000

Like many other messaging services, WhatsApp has shown inline photos in notifications for a long time. But with the arrival of Android 9 Pie, Google changed how things are done and introduced a proper MessagingStyle notification style with support for inline pics and stickers. In the past couple of days, WhatsApp has implemented it in the beta channel.

Now, when you receive an image over WhatsApp on an Android 9 Pie device, the notification will expand and collapse to show the picture.

Early glimpse at Android Pie with Samsung Experience 10 reveals 'night theme,' new gesture control
Wed, 19 Sep 2018 15:11:54 +0000

Since Samsung isn't exactly known for lightning fast updates, it's always a welcome surprise to see details of a new build ahead of time. XDA Developers, working with OTA firmware download tool Firmware.science, has managed to provide us with just that by installing a test build of the Samsung Experience 10 update based on Android 9 Pie for the Samsung Galaxy S9+. Google just struck a deal with a major auto alliance to run Android on millions of future cars
Tue, 18 Sep 2018 20:45:00 +0000

Google's been at work on infiltrating the automotive industry for a long time. It's managed to wedge its foot firmly in the door with Android Auto, which runs on a wide range of in-market cars from popular brands — but that was never the ultimate goal. After all, Android Auto essentially just mirrors features from an Android device to car's infotainment system, it's not Android running on a car. The latter, more desirable implementation is (somewhat confusingly) called Android Automotive.

Channel Master Stream+ Android TV DVR review: So much wasted potential
Mon, 17 Sep 2018 11:55:49 +0000

Some people are cord cutters — fed up with cable bills that seem to rise every month, hardware rental fees, and the unshakable sense that they aren't getting a ton of value for their entertainment buck. The just-under $150 Channel Master Stream+ and its ability to both stream online content and record free over-the-air broadcasts promises to keep them happy in a cable-free world. Does it deliver?

While I can't truly count myself among cord cutters, since I never subscribed to cable as an adult in the first place, I'm very much of the mindset that there are a ton of alternative video sources out there, and between online streaming and OTA broadcasts, I'm a happy camper. I've been using OTA DVRs for well over a decade now, but with existing options starting to feel a little stagnant, my attention was piqued when Channel Master announced its Stream+ Android TV-based DVR back at the start of the year.
